In the year since I left Jackson Hewitt Tax Technology LLC, many things have happened.  I have grown considerably in my understanding of SharePoint 2010, Commerce Server 2009, Ektron 8+, SQL2008 R2, Hardware Infrastructure, and Licensing.   Working together with the talent at MethodFactory I have led the effort to build out a Prescriptive Architecture (PA).  PA is a term that I found in a Microsoft Whitepaper.   The concepts rang true to my ears, so I set about ensuring the MethodFactory would be able to offer it's own take on the concepts.   We have now signed two Multi-Billion Dollar companies up, and more are calling every day.  As it turns out what we have come up with is promised by many companies but few are delivering on the promise.

Working together with the partners we have invested heavily in improving our talent pool.   As with any company, we did this it two ways.  We have been hiring the best talent available in the Sarasota FL area, and by best we mean 'Current, Imaginative, and Talented'.   The second approach has been heavy investment in our fantastic existing employee base.  We have set about funding training through:

  • Safari online books
  • LearnDevNow online vidoe training
  • Purchase of paperback books from APress, Wrox, and Microsoft Press directed and certification exam preparation
  • Certifcation for all developers including practice exams and actual exams
  • Conference attendence at SQL Pass, TechEd, DevCon
  • Monthly Lunch and Learns

Clearly, knowledge and training are a high priority.  By the end of September we expect that MethodFactory will have three Gold Competency Certifications with Microsft.  In January we achieved Ektron Certification and currently hold Ektron Premier Partner status.

MethodFactory has been good for me, in the coming year I hope to contribute even more and measure that success in helping the partners double last years revenue, helping the staff achieve professional growth and satisfaction, and helping the clients of MethodFactory feel solid that they have business partners not just contractors.

As for me, I have been serving as Chief Technology Officer since December 2010.  I hope to spend more time this year on my technology blogs and more time with my favorite pass time Astronomy.
